District Heating
What it is:
Not a choice available to individual homeowners but is an excellent choice for larger developments and cooperatives.
District heating is a term that applies broadly to any centralized system that provides heat and hot water to multiple buildings.
The appeal is that a centralized source can be planned more efficiently (as is also the case for geothermal), and maintained more easily (as in the case of pellet-fueled boilers). District heating also can be a more efficient solution than multiple fossil-fueled boilers because the load can be better balanced.
